Press conference by MP Özgür Ferhat

Noting that the problems of the minority consist of two titles as institutional and economic problems, Özgür Ferhat said that the minority faces problems in the economic field as well as the problems in the administration of foundations, elections of mufti and minority education.

Rhodope New Left MP Özgür Ferhat met with the press members before the opening of his political office on  Saturday 17 February. 

MP Ferhat stated that as New Left Party they attach great importance to social issues and that the problems of the minority of Western Thrace are among these issues.

He stated  by thanking the minority people in the province of Rhodope for the great support  to him, Özgür Ferhat said that as New Left they will try to solve the problems of the people. Referring to the general elections held in 2023, Özgür Ferhat stated that the people and members of the minority in Rhodope showed a great success.

Stating that they have carried out many studies on the problems of the region since the day he was elected, Özgür Ferhat noted that they submitted many reports to the government, especially on economic problems and the related migration problem.

Stating that after the presidential election in SYRIZA, their views did not match with the new president and that SYRIZA experienced an axis shift.  Özgür Ferhat emphasised that for this reason they left the party and participated to the founding of the New Left. 

Stating that he is among the founders of the New Left, Ferhat noted that they are trying to help both the society and the region with a new programmes.

Stating that as New Left they attach great importance to social issues, Ferhat stated that the problems of the Western Thrace Minority are among these issues.

Stating that the people in the region are in a very difficult situation especially in the province of Rodopi, Ferhat said that a new economic programme should be adopted immediately.

MP Özgür Ferhat also expressed his personal opinion about the law on same-sex marriages and child adoption, which has been on the agenda in recent days, and emphasised that he did not participate in the vote in the parliament because he was against the law.
