Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu said that he did not give Fatih Terim, who coaches Panathinaikos, one of the Greek Super League teams, a chance against his son Razvan Lucescu, who is in charge of the leading PAOK. Lucescu stated that he does not favour coaching a team in the middle of the season.

Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu said that he did not give Fatih Terim, who coaches Panathinaikos, one of the Greek Super League teams, a chance against his son Razvan Lucescu, who is in charge of the leading PAOK.

Lucescu, who did not sign with another team after resigning from his post at Dynamo Kiev in November 2023, told AA correspondent by phone, stating that there have been various transfer rumours about him in the sports media in recent days and stated that he is not interested in coaching a team in the middle of the season.

Stating that this is the first time he has spent so much time with his family and friends, the 78-year-old experienced coach said, "I am currently spending a pleasant time with my family in Bucharest, I love my grandchildren. Some clubs are in contact with me. My preference is to sign with a club at the beginning of the season, in June. I am not very keen to take office in the middle of the season."

Lucescu noted that he did not feel mentally ready to be a coach at the moment and said, "The last season in Ukraine was very troubled. The continuation of the Russia-Ukraine war also negatively affected football. In this process, we were also psychologically wounded. I am not disconnected from football, but I want to rest my head a little more."

"I don't think Razvan will lose a match against Terim"

Stating that Fatih Terim's taking over Panathinaikos would bring excitement to the Greek Super League, Lucescu claimed that his son Razvan, who coaches PAOK, would not give Terim a pass, just like he did in the past.

Stating that Razvan is an appreciated and admired technical director in Greece, Lucescu said, "I defeated Fatih Terim in derbies in Türkiye and carried Beşiktaş to the championship. Terim's rival now is my son Razvan Lucescu. I don't think Razvan will lose a match against Terim."

Lucescu reminded that he went to Riyadh for the Super Cup match at the invitation of the Turkish Football Federation, but the match was postponed due to some problems in the organisation, "The Super Cup match should not be played outside Türkiye. I think it can be in Ankara, Antalya and Izmir are also suitable for the final. There were very few spectators at the postponed match in Saudi Arabia. The final match should be held in a stadium that Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe fans will fill to capacity."
