FIFA faces backlash over soaring World Cup ticket prices and chaotic sales system

The final sales phase opened this week, but many supporters struggled with long online queues and limited access. Complaints about pricing have grown since tickets first went on sale, especially after FIFA introduced dynamic pricing, where costs increase based on demand.

Reports indicate that tickets for many matches are now more expensive than before. A top-category ticket for the final has risen to nearly $11,000, compared to under $7,000 earlier—far exceeding the originally promised price of $1,550.

Supporter groups say this makes the tournament unaffordable for many fans, pointing not only to ticket costs but also to travel and accommodation expenses. A formal complaint has also been filed with the European Commission over FIFA’s pricing strategy.

While some match prices have stayed the same, others have increased, and fans have also reported confusion with the ticketing system, including being placed in incorrect queues.
