Turkish partner in SEKE
Mahmut Özgener, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, became a partner with SEKE, one of the largest leaf tobacco companies in Greece. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of SEKE, a large cooperative, is Kostas Karamanlis, former Prime Minister of Greece.
Öz-Ege Tütün Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., of which IZTO President Mahmut Özgener is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and in which he is a partner with Aliberti Ailes, and Istanbul-based SEKE Yaprak Tütün Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi established Torbalı-based SEKOZE Tütün Anonim Şirketi on 12 March.
The company, in which both companies have equal shares, will carry out leaf tobacco production, contract tobacco production, tobacco trade, and tobacco seed cultivation. It will also establish a facility for leaf tobacco processing and processing.
According to the news of Erhan Gülenç, Mahmut Özgener became the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish-Greek joint company and Alexandros Kontos became the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of SEKE, a large co-operative in Greece, is Kostas Karamanlis, a former Prime Minister. Kontos is also Karamanlis' Vice President in Greece.
OPENING OUT TO BALKANS
SEKE Leaf Tobacco was founded in September 2023 by Sineteristiki Enosi Kapnoparagogon Ellados Anonimi Eteria A.E. (SEKE AE), based in Xanthi, Greece.
Operating since 1947 in the leaf tobacco business in Greece, the Greek company has its head office and factory in Xanthi and facilities in North Macedonia, Albania and Bulgaria.
The company, which buys and processes oriental tobacco in the region, exports to more than 30 countries in Europe, Asia, North America, Latin America and Africa. It also supplies products to international tobacco companies.
With this partnership, the two countries that produce the most oriental tobacco in the world will realise joint production, trade and export, and the Greek company will open to the Turkish market and Öz-Ege Tütün will open to the Balkan market.
Öz-Ege Tobacco, founded by the Aliberti family and the Özgener family, has been operating in Torbalı since 2002. Oryantal Tütün Ambalaj A.Ş., established by Öz-Ege's partners in 2013, has been in partnership with the US global tobacco company Alliance One Tobacco since 2014.
