Socio-economic characteristics of port city played important role in shaping his ideals and views, say scholars.

The Turkish Embassy in the capital Athens hosted an event Tuesday evening on Türkiye’s founding father Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s early years in Thessaloniki, an Ottoman city until 1912.

Panel speakers Gunder Akdogan, president of the Ataturk Research Center (ATAM) in Ankara, Esra Ozsuer, Ramazan Erhan Gullu and Mesut Capa, members of the center’s scientific committee, underscored that the socio-economic characteristics of Ottoman Thessaloniki played an important role in shaping Ataturk’s ideals and views.
