Traffic fines go fully digital in Greece

Greece is replacing paper traffic violation slips with a fully digital notification system, allowing drivers to receive fines electronically via SMS or email as part of the country's broader digital transformation of public services.

Under the new system, drivers will no longer be handed printed penalty notices during roadside checks. Instead, they will receive a digital notification containing a QR code, enabling them to pay the fine online or submit an appeal through electronic channels.

The reform also extends to driver's license procedures, which will increasingly be processed through digital platforms, reducing paperwork and streamlining administrative services.

Greek authorities say the move is intended to modernize traffic enforcement, improve efficiency and make public services more accessible for citizens.
