Three-day events commemorating Athens Polytechnic uprising start Friday
The gates at the historical National Technical University of Athens (Athens Polytechnic) will be open at 09:00 on Friday, November 15 for the three-day events commemorating the 51st students' uprising against the dictatorship on November 17, 1973.
Specifically, according to a decision by NTU Rector Ioannis Chatjigeorgiou, the Patission campus will be open on from 09:00 to 20:00 on Friday and Saturday (unless safety reasons call for earlier shutdown), and from 09:00 to 13:00 on Sunday (Nov. 17), for the annual march against the US embassy.
The university Senate will be in continuous meetings from Friday morning (Nov. 15) to Monday morning (Nov. 18).
In addition, the buildings themselves will be shut from Thursday (Nov. 14) through Sunday, while there will be no classes at the campus on Friday (Nov. 15).
The campus will have increased security from Monday, Nov. 11 to Monday, Nov. 18 by the university's security staff.
"The NTU will make any decision and take any necessary steps in order to honor 17th of November as a day of remembrance for all fighters and martyrs of the struggle against the dictatorship and as a special day honoring Greek youth," the decision read. It added that events commemorating the Athens Polytechnic uprising "may include events at the institute's external space and events of a limited scope inside it."
