The opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) has called on the Greek government to end what it described as “support” for Israel and to take an active role in peace initiatives.
SYRIZA urges Greek government to halt support for Israel

Rania Svigu, SYRIZA Central Committee member and head of International Relations, issued the appeal in a statement on social media platform X.

"No one can remain a mere spectator to the crimes committed by [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s far-right government. Genocide, bombings, and the blockade against the Palestinian people in Gaza continue," Svigu said.

She stressed that the international community must intervene urgently and concretely to stop the violence and restart negotiations for a two-state solution, adding that the first step should be the imposition of sanctions on Israel.

Svigu also recalled that SYRIZA had urged other parliamentary parties to join in a common call for an end to attacks on Gaza. She emphasized that Greece should recognize the State of Palestine, in line with the unanimous decision adopted by the Greek parliament in 2015.
