Reports claim U.S. to close Alexandroupoli Base
Reports have emerged claiming that U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to shut down the American base in Alexandroupoli, Greece.
According to Dimokratia, which published the news as a front-page story, the U.S. government has ordered an urgent review on the necessity and sustainability of continuing operations at the Alexandroupoli base, which had been allocated by the Greek government to the Biden administration for the transportation of weapon systems to Ukraine.
The report asserts that closing the Alexandroupoli base would be a move welcomed by Ankara, strengthening Turkey’s position in the region. It also notes that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s administration has repeatedly voiced concerns over the base’s activities and has demanded its closure.
