Prosecutors have launched an investigation into a video in which Yanis Varufakis, leader of the MeRA25 party, makes statements about having used drugs in the past.
As part of a preliminary inquiry conducted by the Athens Prosecutor’s Office, the video in question has been forwarded to prosecutors by the police.
The investigation aims to determine whether Varufakis’s remarks constitute the offense of “encouraging or promoting drug use” or any other criminal act.
In the video, Varufakis said that he tried drugs once in the past, explaining that the incident took place in Sydney, Australia, in the late 1980s, and that he did not repeat the experience due to the negative effects he encountered.
