Ousted New Democracy MP issues apology for offensive remarks

Dimitris Kyriaziadis, the ousted New Democracy MP from Drama, publicly apologized on social media for his remarks against Course of Freedom leader Zoe Konstantopoulou, which led to his expulsion from the party’s parliamentary group.

In his statement, which did not include a direct apology to Konstantopoulou, Kyriaziadis said that his behavior did not reflect his values and attributed his outburst to emotional turmoil.

“As a husband, as a father of four children, but above all as a person who respects and honors women, I want to sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart for the words I spoke yesterday in the Hellenic Parliament,” said Kyriaziadis.

He explained that his reaction stemmed from anger over a personal experience, revealing that his son had been traveling by train on the night of the deadly collision in Tempe, though not on the one involved in the crash.

“My behavior was a result of accumulated anger because this particular politician constantly accuses us of being murderers and criminal offenders. However, this does not justify my reaction or the words I used. It was a poor choice of words at that moment—nothing more. We are not like these individuals,” said Kyriazidis.

Earlier on Saturday, New Democracy expelled Kyriaziadis from its parliamentary group following his insult toward Konstantopoulou during the final day of a three-day no-confidence debate against the government.

While Konstantopoulou was addressing Parliament from the podium, Kyriaziadis, a former police officer representing Drama, allegedly shouted, “Go have a baby.”
