Opposition parties unite to pressure government on Gaza issue

SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance leader Sokratis Famellos has reached out to leaders of opposition parties, urging joint action to pressure the Greek government over the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

According to SYRIZA sources, Famellos emphasized the need for a common front to demand that Athens take initiatives aimed at ending the Israeli invasion of Gaza, imposing strict sanctions on Israel, and formally recognizing the State of Palestine.

Positive responses were reported from New Left leader Alexis Charitsis and Course of Freedom leader Zoe Constantopoulou.

Communist Party Response

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) also responded to Famellos’ call.

Party General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoubas reiterated KKE’s position that Greece must cut all cooperation with Israel and implement the unanimous parliamentary decision to recognize the Palestinian state.

Koutsoubas further stressed the need for a broader popular initiative to express solidarity with the Palestinian people.
