New standards for vehicle first aid kits from 2027
Vehicle first aid kits in Greece will have to meet new standards from Jan. 1, 2027, requiring drivers to check their existing kits and replace them if they do not comply.
According to Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association Secretary General Manolis Katsarakis, the new requirements specify 16 medical devices in prescribed quantities.
The required contents include elastic bandages, wound and burn dressings, fastening and restraint materials, a thermal blanket, cleaning wipes, protective masks and first aid instructions.
Kits must meet the DIN 13164:2022 standard for vehicle first aid kits. Individual medical devices, including sterile gauzes, must also carry the CE marking confirming compliance with applicable European Union requirements.
The outer packaging must provide adequate protection against dust and other external conditions, Katsarakis said.
Drivers urged to check existing kits
Drivers who already carry a first aid kit should check that all required items are present in the correct quantities and that none are expired or damaged.
Katsarakis also warned that high temperatures inside parked vehicles can affect medical materials and reduce their suitability for use.
He advised drivers to keep first aid kits in an easily accessible location protected from direct heat, such as the glove compartment or beneath a seat.
The condition of the kit should be checked at least once every two years, he added.
The new requirements are intended to ensure that vehicle first aid kits contain standardized and usable medical supplies when they are needed in an emergency.
