Migrant smuggling ring busted
Authorities have dismantled a sophisticated criminal network involved in the illegal smuggling of migrants and the production of counterfeit travel documents.
The operation, led by the Attica Aliens Division, resulted in the arrest of 23 individuals, including the group’s leader, with 26 others still at large. The organization operated with a structured hierarchy and was active since early 2024, focusing on facilitating the illegal entry and exit of migrants lacking proper documentation. Members of the group produced high-quality fake passports, visas, and other identification documents using advanced equipment.
These forged documents were sold to migrants seeking to travel to European countries, with prices ranging from €400 to €600 per document. The total estimated earnings from these activities exceed €3 million.
The criminal network utilized various methods to transport migrants, including air travel, land routes, and sea passages. They also provided temporary accommodations and coordinated travel logistics to ensure the migrants’ movement through Greece and into other European nations.
Authorities seized over 4,100 fake identification documents, including passports, identity cards, and residence permits. The investigation was conducted with the assistance of Europol. The arrested individuals face charges related to organized crime, document forgery, and facilitating illegal migration.
