Is the navy of France coming to Alexandroupoli too?
Konstantinos Charzimichail, Head of Alexandroupolis Port Organization, met with French officials on Monday, 28 November.
Ambassador Maisonnave said in a statement regarding the meeting, "I came to Alexandroupoli to explore the possibilities of cooperation between financial institutions in the Thrace (Western) region and French companies. France openly sided with Greece on immigration and also on the enlargement of the European Union to include some Balkan countries. France and the EU have already taken the decisions regarding this enlargement. For us, Greece plays an important role in terms of stability and security in this special geographical region. I have no doubt that we will see ships belonging to the French navy approaching Alexandroupoli in the coming years.”
These contacts of the French authorities in Alexandroupoli have now led to comments that, after the USA, "the French navy is also trying to settle in Alexandroupoli".
