Independent MP reports €18.4 million income from work as lawyer in Novartis case
Independent MP Pavlos Sarakis, originally elected with the Hellenic Solution party, declared €18.4 million in income in the wealth statements published on Monday, placing him among the wealthiest members of Parliament.
In his 2023 declaration, Sarakis reported business income of €18,442,402, a dramatic increase compared to the €179,000 he had declared the previous year.
According to reports, this amount represents a legitimate fee related to the Novartis case, in which he served as counsel for the protected witnesses.
The sum is said to correspond to his share of the more than €30 million paid by U.S. authorities to lawyers and witnesses involved in the case.
In early September, two former protected witnesses in the Novartis case were convicted of false testimony and defamation against political officials.
