In a move to strengthen regional cooperation and connectivity, Deputy Prime Minister of Greece Kostis Hatzidakis met with North Macedonia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikoloski, in Athens on Wednesday.

The meeting focused on expanding economic ties and accelerating joint infrastructure projects, particularly in the areas of transport and energy, according to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA).

A key topic of discussion was the development of a high-speed railway along the Pan-European Corridor X – a strategic transport route that would link major Greek ports with Central Europe. Both sides emphasized the project’s potential to reduce transport times, boost cross-border trade, and improve economic competitiveness in the wider Balkan region.

Hatzidakis and Nikoloski underlined the unique geographic position of both countries, highlighting the opportunity to transform them into vital energy and transit hubs in Southeast Europe.

The two officials also explored ways to deepen bilateral trade relations, encourage investment, and promote cooperation between their respective business communities. Particular interest was expressed in identifying new sectors of mutual benefit and fostering sustainable economic partnerships.

Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining open dialogue and promoting strategic initiatives that support stability, growth, and regional prosperity.
