Metro strike and station closures announced for Saturday
Workers’ unions of Athens Urban Rail Transport (STASY) have announced a strike on Saturday to take part in demonstrations marking the third anniversary of the Tempi railway accident. Metro services in Athens will be suspended from the start of operations until 9:00 a.m.
The work stoppage follows a request from the Association of Victims of the Tempi Accident, which asked for adjustments to help facilitate travel for those attending the rally at Syntagma Square at 12:00 noon.
In Thessaloniki, six metro stations will also close temporarily on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m., according to THEMA, the city’s metro operator and maintenance company. Following police instructions, the stations Neos Sidirodromikos Stathmos, Dimokratias, Venizelou, Agias Sofias, Sintrivani, and Panepistimio will be shut.
Passengers are also advised that further delays or service limitations may occur due to a nationwide strike called by the Panhellenic Federation of Railway and Fixed-Track Transport Workers.
