Greece signs LNG deal, strengthens support for Ukraine

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Greece resulted in a U.S. LNG supply deal and commitments for post-war reconstruction and Euro-Atlantic integration.

The agreement, signed by DEPA and Naftogaz, will transport liquefied natural gas through the Balkan pipeline, with deliveries starting in January. Zelenskyy highlighted the urgent need for imports following extensive Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called Greece an “energy security provider” for Ukraine, noting the deal strengthens Europe’s independence from Russian gas. Discussions also covered the Vertical Energy Corridor, Dedeağaç (Alexandroupolis)–Odessa connection, and energy projects involving Greek and Ukrainian companies.

Defense and cybersecurity cooperation were key topics, with both sides agreeing to enhance military collaboration, maritime security, and information exchange on hybrid threats.

Zelenskyy thanked Greece for ongoing support, calling the energy package crucial for Ukraine’s stability this winter.

The joint GreeceUkraine statement emphasized a ceasefire, security guarantees, EU integration, energy security, defense and cybersecurity cooperation, and pressure on Russia until full compliance with international law.
