Greece reports three new West Nile Virus cases, total rises to seven
Health authorities in Greece have confirmed three new cases of West Nile virus over the past week, raising the total number of infections to seven since the beginning of the summer.
According to official sources, five of the total cases have been linked to the region of West Attica, while one was traced to travel-related exposure in Serbia. The latest case involves a patient in Ilia, located in the northwestern Peloponnese.
The West Nile virus is primarily transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes and can cause a range of symptoms, from mild flu-like illness to serious neurological complications in some cases.
Health officials are urging the public to take preventive measures against mosquito bites, especially in areas where cases have been reported. Surveillance and vector control efforts remain ongoing.
