Influenza activity in Greece has declined modestly over the past week, with fewer flu-related doctor visits and hospitalizations reported, though circulation of the virus remains elevated nationwide.

Health authorities continue to urge caution, particularly among high-risk groups.

According to the latest Weekly Epidemiological Surveillance Report for Respiratory Infections, respiratory symptoms accounted for 12.5% of doctor visits last week, down from more than 16% in early January. Of those cases, 44% tested positive for influenza, compared with over 50% earlier this month.

Hospital admissions fell to 613 new cases from 871 the previous week, marking the first decrease after seven consecutive weeks of rising infections. However, 23 new severe cases requiring intensive care and seven deaths were reported.

Most severe cases involve unvaccinated individuals with underlying health conditions.

Influenza A remains the dominant strain, with the highly transmissible H3N2 subclade most prevalent. Experts note that flu activity typically continues through March, often with intermittent surges.
