A total of 83 infections from the West Nile virus have been recorded in Greece from the start of the season in 2025 to September 17.
Greece registers a total of 83 West Nile virus cases since start of season

A total of 83 infections from the West Nile virus have been recorded in Greece from the start of the season in 2025 to September 17, with 68 of these affecting the central nervous system (encephalitis and/or meningitis and/or acute flaccid paralysis), the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Wednesday. 

The remainder 15 had mild symptoms or none.

According to AMNA, last week, 8 new infections were recorded. In addition, 2 imported West Nile virus cases were traced as coming from Serbia and Italy, respectively (not included in further analysis). Since the start of the season, a total of 7 deaths were recorded of people infected and suffering from symptoms. All were over 65 years of age (median age of the deceased: 80 years, range: 66-86 years of age).

West Nile virus infections in Greece have been recorded in 37 municipalities and 20 regional units.
