Greece orders firefighting aircraft capable of night operations

Greece has placed an order for seven next-generation Canadair DHC-515 firefighting aircraft, which will have the ability to carry out firefighting operations at night—a capability not previously available in the country’s fleet.

According to media reports, the first aircraft has already entered production, led by the Canada-based company De Havilland. Deliveries are expected between late 2027 and early 2028, with the new planes set to be operational for the 2028 summer wildfire season.

In addition to the new order, Greece also plans to carry out a comprehensive modernization of its current fleet of seven CL-415 aircraft. The DHC-515s will not only serve in firefighting missions but will also be available for transport operations, with the crucial advantage of operating around the clock, day and night
