The first case of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), which was first identified in China, has been detected in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The first case of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), which was first identified in China, has been detected in Thessaloniki, Greece.

According to media reports, a 71-year-old individual, who recently traveled to China for a holiday, began feeling ill a few days after returning to Greece. On Thursday, January 3, the person was taken to a private hospital in Thessaloniki by their daughter and was admitted to the Chest Clinic. A PCR test was performed on the patient.

The test result came back positive for HMPV on Monday, January 6.

Following the positive result, the patient was placed in a special room for treatment.
