Greece launches Gov.gr Messenger for digital public notifications

The new service will allow official announcements, administrative updates and public service notifications from government agencies to be delivered directly to citizens’ mobile phones.

Through Gov.gr Messenger, public institutions will manage their digital communication with citizens and businesses through a centralized system. Notifications from different government bodies will be gathered in one platform, allowing users to access official information more quickly and efficiently.

The system is expected to be used by major public organizations, including the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), the e-EFKA social security institution, the IDIKA health information organization, and other agencies providing services through the Gov.gr platform.

Citizens will receive notifications related to tax procedures, social security matters, administrative processes and various public services through the new platform.

Officials stated that Gov.gr Messenger will support personalized messaging while operating in compliance with European Union GDPR regulations regarding data protection and privacy. The platform’s technical and administrative security standards have also been established through specific regulations.

The main goal of the project is to reduce bureaucracy, ensure that citizens receive important government notifications on time, improve digital public services and accelerate communication between the state and citizens.

Gov.gr Messenger is being developed as part of Greece’s broader digital transformation strategy, aiming to make communication between public institutions and citizens faster, safer and more efficient.
