Greece appoints new leadership to Supreme Court

Greece’s Supreme Court (Areios Pagos) has appointed new leadership, following cabinet approval of nominations put forward by Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis.

Anastasia Papadopoulou, formerly a vice president of the court, has been named president. With 36 years of experience in the judiciary, Papadopoulou is widely regarded as a seasoned legal professional with a strong track record of service.

Konstantinos Tzavellas has been appointed as the court’s new prosecutor. Tzavellas previously served as the spokesperson for the Prosecutor’s Office and is a former president of the Association of Prosecutors.

Both Papadopoulou and Tzavellas will serve one-year terms in their respective roles.

Their appointments mark a significant moment for the judiciary, as the court continues to play a key role in overseeing the rule of law and interpreting constitutional matters in Greece.
