The woman, who does not have legal residency status in Greece, gave a nearly six-hour testimony with the assistance of an Arabic interpreter. She denied the charges, claiming that her daughter, Jena, had lost consciousness after two separate falls in the bathroom.

According to her testimony, fearing that her daughter had died and panicking due to her undocumented status, she decided not to seek medical help. Instead, she said she abandoned the child’s body in the sea.

The body of the toddler was discovered in the early hours of Sunday, July 27, floating in the waters off Edem beach in Paleo Faliro, a coastal suburb of Athens.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
