Construction crews are seen working on a new soccer stadium being built for Athens club Panathinaikos in the downtown district of Votanikos, on Friday.
Environment Minister Stavros Papastavrou and Athens Mayor Haris Doukas visited the construction site on Friday to check on the project’s progress.
“The first slab has been poured,” Doukas commented in a social media post. “The support foundations for the stands in the northwestern section are already visible.”
The stadium is part of a broader redevelopment plan. The new facility will replace Panathinaikos’ historic but majorly outdated one in the Ambelokipi district.
