Kyriakos Mitsotakis: “Panathinaikos stadium will be ready in May 2027”

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Tuesday that the new Panathinaikos football stadium in Votanikos is scheduled to be completed in May 2027, as construction continues at a rapid pace and in line with the official project timeline.

The Prime Minister visited the construction site together with Panathinaikos FC owner Giannis Alafouzos and Athens Mayor Haris Doukas. During the visit, they toured the facilities and inspected the progress of the works firsthand.

According to officials, construction of the new stadium is advancing smoothly, with major structural elements already taking shape. Mitsotakis was briefed on the overall development, viewed the stands currently under construction, and walked across the future playing field of the stadium.

Despite being a known supporter of Olympiacos, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the project, describing it as a landmark development not only for Panathinaikos but also for the broader urban regeneration of the Votanikos area.

Once completed, the new stadium will become the long-awaited home of Panathinaikos FC, marking a significant milestone for the club and its supporters, as well as for Athens’ sports infrastructure.

The project is considered a key component of the wider redevelopment plan for Votanikos, expected to deliver economic, social, and environmental benefits to the city upon completion.
