Derby draw for Greens and Reds

Panathinaikos and Olympiakos drew 1-1 in the season’s first derby, as no Super League team is left with a perfect record anymore after four rounds of games.

At the “Apostolos NIkolaidis” stadium on Sunday, ex-Glasgow Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers opened the score for Panathinaikos three minutes into the second half. This was the first goal Olympiakos has conceded in all competitions this season.

Olympiakos had more chances to score, especially in the second half, but had to wait till injury time to find the equalizer with Ayoub El-Kaabi, sparing the Reds the defeat.

This game was the debut of Christos Kontis (a former Olympiakos player and coach) on the Panathinaikos bench, having just replaced Portuguese manager Rui Vitoria who was sacked last Monday. It is not certain how long Kontis, initially hired as caretaker, will stay at the post.

AEK could not bend the resistance of host Larissa on Sunday drawing 1-1 at the AEL FC Arena. AEK led with Petros Mantalos, but Larissa responded with Sofian Chakla.

PAOK also drew, sharing a goalless game with visiting Panetolikos, four days after the Thessaloniki’s team 4-1 Cup defeat at Levadiakos.

Aris scored its second win at Agrinio in three days: On Wednesday it defeated host Panetolikos 1-0 for the Cup and on Saturday it won by the same score against 10-man Kifissia that was the host of the game, since its home ground in northern Athens is not yet ready to host Super League games.

In other weekend games, Volos downed Asteras Tripolis 2-1, Levadiakos thrashed nine-man OFI 4-0, and Panserraikos drew 1-1 at home with Atromitos.

Olympiakos, AEK and PAOK lead the table with 10 points, while Aris has nine and Levadiakos seven.
