Fire prevention season 2025: Responsibility and readiness to protect life, nature, and our communities

Authorities remind all citizens that from May 1st onward, the use of fire in outdoor areas is strictly prohibited for any reason—whether for agricultural activities or recreational purposes such as outdoor cooking or barbecuing.
"NO BARBECUES on May Day in forests or any outdoor areas," officials emphasize.
In rare cases where fire usage is permitted under specific legislation, strict adherence to all prescribed safety measures is mandatory, as outlined in Fire Regulation 9/2024 issued by the Hellenic Fire Service.
The announcement underscores the critical role of prevention in protecting natural ecosystems, public safety, and cultural heritage.
"Protecting our society and environment is not someone else’s job—it is a shared responsibility. Every fire that never starts is a forest that continues to breathe."
Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and to cooperate fully with local authorities and emergency services throughout the fire season.
"Fire does not forgive. Prevention is our strongest defense," the statement concludes.
