Farmers' rally at 30th Agrotica concludes in Thessaloniki
At the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) grounds, farmers gathered from Thessaly and other areas of Greece shortly after 12:00, but did not block the road. In a symbolic gesture, they threw chestnuts and apples on the street and then marched to the TIF grounds, holding banners and shouting slogans. Representatives of the Larissa and Karditsa farmers' federations said they were determined to escalate their struggle.
They were joined by university students opposing the founding of non-state universities in Greece who expressed their support.
Following speeches, the farmers joined their colleagues from Central Macedonia, who have stationed themselves at TIF's southern gate with their tractors since Thursday. The latter will leave on Sunday, when Agrotica concludes, while they have all expressed their intention to return to highway blockades.
