Farmers prepare for protests, park tractors along roads
In Greece, approximately 1,500 tractors have been parked along roadsides as farmers prepare to protest, demanding reduced production costs.
According to media reports, farmers across the country are mobilizing for demonstrations aimed at addressing the high costs of agricultural production. As part of the preparations, tractors have been stationed along roadsides in five key locations nationwide.
Regions where agriculture is a major economic activity, such as Trikala, Larissa, and Thessaly, have seen tractors lined up and ready for action. Reports indicate that additional participation is expected from areas like Ioannina, Kilkis, and the island of Crete by the end of the month.
Farmers have put forth a series of demands, including the removal of taxes on agricultural diesel, a reduction in electricity prices, the elimination of VAT on purchases related to farming activities, full compensation for damages to farmland caused by natural disasters, and an increase in pensions for retired farmers.
The protests highlight the increasing challenges faced by Greece’s agricultural sector, with farmers urging the government to take immediate action to address their concerns.
