EOPYY hearing aid subsidy: Up to €900 support for insured patients

Greece’s National Organization for Healthcare Services Provision, EOPYY, is offering substantial financial support to insured individuals diagnosed with hearing loss, covering up to €900 for hearing aid devices under specific medical conditions.

The initiative aims to improve accessibility to essential hearing technology and reduce the financial burden on patients requiring certified medical devices.

Who Is Eligible?

The subsidy applies to all insured individuals who meet the required medical criteria and hold certified documentation of hearing loss.

Under current regulations:

  • Reimbursement reaches €450 per hearing aid device
  • Coverage is renewable every four years, allowing for device replacement
  • When Does the Subsidy Reach €900?

For patients diagnosed with severe bilateral hearing loss (above 80 dB in both ears), EOPYY covers two hearing aids.

This means total reimbursement can reach:

€900 (2 × €450)

This measure ensures individuals with profound hearing impairment receive adequate bilateral support.

Higher Support for Children

Children up to 16 years old are entitled to increased coverage:

If medically justified, reimbursement for children may be renewed annually, recognizing the need for frequent adjustments or replacements during developmental years.

Application Process Explained

To receive reimbursement, patients must:

Obtain a medical report from an EOPYY-contracted ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) specialist.

Submit the request within one month of the report’s issuance date.

Importantly:

The insured person does not need to submit documents directly.

The entire process is handled through a contracted hearing aid provider.

If the device cost exceeds EOPYY’s covered amount, the patient pays only the difference.

Improving Access to Essential Care

With hearing loss affecting quality of life, communication, and social inclusion, EOPYY’s subsidy program strengthens healthcare accessibility and financial protection for vulnerable groups, particularly children and patients with severe bilateral impairment.

The measure reflects Greece’s broader effort to enhance public health coverage and support medical device accessibility within the national insurance framework.
