The Regional Administration of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT) has announced an investment of over 39 million euros to improve energy efficiency in schools and public buildings.

EMT Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis stated that 23 new energy efficiency projects have been approved under the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace 2021-2027 Program. A total budget of €39,797,440.64 has been allocated for energy-saving projects targeting public and municipal buildings under the "Sustainable Resource and Infrastructure Management" priority.

Particular emphasis has been placed on the education sector, with more than 20 school buildings in the region set to be renovated for improved energy efficiency.

Speaking about the investments in energy efficiency, Topsidis said:
"Our region considers education a top priority, and we are demonstrating this by not only constructing new school buildings but also enhancing the energy efficiency of existing ones. Our goal is to modernize educational facilities, improve safety, provide better conditions for teachers and students, and achieve energy savings. We will continue working to ensure the education community gets the infrastructure it deserves and that Eastern Macedonia and Thrace have modern public schools. Additionally, we are also funding energy efficiency projects for sports facilities, municipal buildings, exhibition centers, and public service buildings."
