A slight increase was observed in the positivity rate for SARS-CoV-2 as well as for the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), according to the epidemiological report of the Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY) for the week of March 11-17.

A slight increase was observed in the positivity rate for SARS-CoV-2 as well as for the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), according to the epidemiological report of the Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY) for the week of March 11-17.

The positivity rate for influenza in the community decreased but remains above 10%, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

SARS-CoV-2 virus - COVID-19 infection

The positivity rate in all tested samples showed a slight increase compared to the previous week. The number of new cases (127) decreased by 46% compared to the average number of weekly cases in the previous 4 weeks (237).

The number of new intubations (2) decreased from the average weekly number of new intubations during the previous 4 weeks (4).

The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized on ventilators is 13. Eight deaths were recorded with an average age of 85 years (range 79-93 years).

The number of deaths decreased from the average weekly number in the last 4 weeks (18).

Flu virus

The positivity rate for influenza in the community (sentinel network) remains above 10% (the seasonal threshold for the start of influenza epidemic activity according to ECDC) and showed a decrease compared to the previous week.

A new severe case was recorded with hospitalization in the Intensive Care Unit and a new death from laboratory-confirmed flu.
