GREEK REGION JOINS EUROPEAN CELEBRATION IN BRUSSELS

Eastern Macedonia and Thrace was the sole Greek region invited to represent the country during Europe Day celebrations organized by the Assembly of European Regions (AER) in Brussels on 9–10 May 2025. With a message from Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis and a dynamic delegation, the region presented its tourism potential, cultural heritage, and rich gastronomy to a diverse international audience.

Led by Felina Kazakou, special advisor on European programmes, alongside Brussels office representatives Fanis Pantelogiannis and Thomas Kikis, the delegation used interactive methods to engage attendees and promote the region. Their modern presentation tools, including an educational quiz, captured visitors’ attention by asking questions such as “Which ancient Greek philosopher was born in the region?” Winners received symbolic prizes, including small replicas of the Winged Victory of Samothrace.

GASTRONOMY AND CULTURE IN THE SPOTLIGHT

One of the major highlights was the display of local products. Wines, traditional sweets, jams, olives, dried fruits, and mountain tea were presented and offered to the public, leaving a strong impression on visitors from across Europe and beyond. The culinary showcase attracted significant interest and served as a gateway to the broader cultural and historical wealth of the region.

NETWORKING AND STRATEGIC VISIBILITY

Throughout the two-day event, the Brussels office of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace welcomed numerous visitors while also facilitating key meetings. Ms. Kazakou participated in various institutional events, strengthening ties with EU bodies and other regional authorities.

Europe Day provided a valuable platform for Eastern Macedonia and Thrace to highlight its European outlook and to foster future cooperation. The region aims to take full advantage of EU programmes and funding opportunities to support sustainable development and improve the quality of life for its residents.
