The deceased had been on Interpol's red notice list since February 28, 2022. He was briefly detained in Athens' Koridallos Prison in 2022 before being released. The fatal incident occurred around 8:00 PM near the intersection of Lesvos and Patision streets, where gunshots prompted a swift police response.

Police discovered nine bullet casings at the scene and suspect that at least two attackers were involved. Initial investigations indicate that the gunmen ambushed the victim as he parked his vehicle, suggesting a premeditated attack. A bystander unrelated to the conflict was also injured and taken to Erythrou Hospital.
