Minorities intergroup in the European Parliament reestablished

The Traditional Minorities, National Communities, and Languages Intergroup within the European Parliament (EP) was reestablished on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in Brussels.

Around 40 MEPs from all political groups in the EP supported the revival of this unique EU forum dedicated to addressing the rights and issues of national minorities.

Loránt Vincze, the President of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) and an MEP (EPP, Romania), was elected as the President of the Minorities Intergroup. Following his election, Vincze emphasized that the dialogue facilitated by the Intergroup has provided valuable insights, highlighting that Europe’s attention to indigenous national minorities and the provision of legal protection and support is a shared interest for all.

Halit Habipoğlu, President of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF), welcomed the reestablishment of the Intergroup, stating, "The continuation of the Minorities Intergroup’s work in the new legislative term of the EP is a highly positive development for the protection and representation of the rights and interests of our community and all national minority groups in Europe. We sincerely congratulate Loránt Vincze on his election as President and trust in his continued strong support for our community and the ABTTF. In this new term, we will persist in bringing our community's concerns to the Intergroup’s meetings and to the attention of MEPs."
