RAE proposes new ‘Flexible’ electricity tariff category in Greece
Greece’s Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) has proposed the creation of a new category of electricity tariff, labeled as "flexible" and visually marked with the color red. The proposal was made public on Tuesday and has been posted for public consultation.
According to RAE, the new flexible tariff will not be tied to wholesale market fluctuations. Instead, the supply charge will include a predefined variable component that may change based on external, non-supplier-related factors, such as individual consumption levels.
Currently, Greek electricity consumers can choose from three main tariff types:
Fixed-rate (blue),
Floating-rate (yellow and green – the latter with prices fixed monthly),
Dynamic tariffs (orange), available to consumers with smart meters.
The proposal to introduce a new red-labeled category was spurred by the innovative “Picasso” tariff from Protergia, which offers a single fixed charge for energy and regulated fees (such as network charges), adjusted based on consumption levels.
RAE is now seeking feedback from stakeholders and consumers as it considers incorporating this new pricing model into Greece’s evolving electricity market framework.
