Government announces support package for fire-hit regions

The government has approved a package of emergency relief measures for areas devastated by wildfires in June, July, and August, covering the greater Athens area, the North Aegean, Western Greece, Epirus, Crete, the Ionian Islands, and Central Greece.
The measures, approved Wednesday by the Governmental Committee for State Aid chaired by Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Konstantinos Katsafados, include:
Housing assistance for repairing or rebuilding damaged homes.
Rent subsidies of up to €500 for temporary accommodation.
Immediate household aid of €600 for basic needs, with higher amounts for large families and people with disabilities.
Up to €6,000 for replacing or repairing essential household items (reduced by half for secondary residences).
€4,500 for individuals who suffer severe disabilities due to fire-related injuries.
Business and farm compensation covering 70% of assessed damages, up to €500,000 per beneficiary or branch.
ENFIA property tax exemption for disaster zones for the year of the disaster and the following two years.
Local governments will also receive emergency funding to meet urgent needs and restore damaged infrastructure.
The Committee stressed its commitment to delivering swift and substantial assistance in cooperation with relevant agencies and local authorities.
