Car sales surge 20.7% in Greece in September

Car sales in Greece jumped by 20.7% in September compared to the same month last year, according to data released Friday by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
A total of 21,642 cars—both new and imported used vehicles—were registered for the first time last month, up from 17,935 in September 2024. The sharp rise comes despite the month typically being slower for car sales, which usually peak in late winter and spring.
New car registrations saw an even stronger increase, rising 29.5% year-on-year to 13,412, up from 10,357 in September 2024.
Over the first nine months of 2025, 200,034 cars were newly registered, reflecting a 4.9% increase compared to 190,692 during the same period last year. New car registrations alone totaled 121,237, up 3.8% from 116,756 in 2024.
In contrast, motorcycle registrations over 50cc declined in September, falling 8.8% year-on-year to 7,172 from 7,865.
