The ceremony organised for the completion of the works was attended by Hajrulla Çeku, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Kosovo; Fikrim Damka, Minister of Regional Development of Kosovo and President of the Kosovo Democratic Turkish Party (KDTP); Fidan Brina Jılta, KDTP MP; Celal Doğan, Consul General of Türkiye in Prizren; representatives of Turkish institutions in the country and many guests.
In his speech here, Minister Çeku thanked the experts of the Cultural Heritage Centre of Prizren Region who carried out the restoration works.
Stating that they put the monuments into the service of the society by making them functional, Çeku said, "This monument, when the entire restoration process is completed, should be in the function of citizens, waiting for visitors and tourists and serving the local economy of Prizren."
Providing information about the restoration, the experts said that some new structures and artefacts were also discovered during the works.
In the first stage of the restoration works financed by the Kosovo Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, work was carried out in the men's part of the bath.
The second and final phase of the restoration works, which will focus on the women's section and landscaping of Gazi Mehmet Pasha Bath, will start soon.
Gazi Mehmet Pasha Bath, built by Gazi Mehmet Pasha, the Governor of Iskodra Sanjak, in 1573-1574, is considered one of the largest baths in the Balkans.
Until the first half of the 20th century, the Ottoman-era hammam, which served the people of Prizren for the main purpose, today hosts cultural and artistic activities.
