The Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called on Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue to closely monitor truck traffic between Greece and Bulgaria amid suspicions of illicit cross-border trade.
The Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called on Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue to closely monitor truck traffic between Greece and Bulgaria amid suspicions of illicit cross-border trade.
In a letter to the authority, Chamber President Yiannis Masoutis said numerous members have reported that goods are being transported in both directions without proper invoices.
Masoutis stressed that the lack of customs checks since Bulgaria joined the Schengen Area on January 1, 2025, has raised concerns about potential abuse of the open border for undeclared imports and exports.
The Chamber is urging authorities to step up monitoring measures to safeguard legal trade and protect state revenue.
