Avni Engüllü, one of the important names of N. Macedonian Turks, passed away
Ayşe Özgül Engüllü, the daughter of the deceased, said in her post on the subject, "My dear father, my dear father, has passed away. May your place be heaven, my world. His funeral will be buried in Karşıyaka cemetery following the afternoon prayer on 19.02.2024."

Who is Avni Engüllü?
He was born in Skopje. After completing his primary and secondary education at Tefeyyüz primary school, he graduated from 'Nikola Karev' Teacher Training School in Skopje. After a short time as a teacher, he started working as a journalist in the Turkish Broadcasting Department of Skopje Radio. The reviews and research articles he wrote for the culture and arts programmes of this department were published in Birlik newspaper and Sesler magazine.
Engüllü, whose branch of radio journalism was documentary broadcasts, also prepared travel programmes, worked as a theatre and literature critic, and worked on radio drama and children's radio drama. He served as the Head of the Culture, Arts, Education and Science Department, General Programme Coordinator and member of the Radio Council. He was awarded several times for the programmes he prepared in radio production.
Engüllü's passion for poetry from an early age was published in a book entitled İlk (Skopje, 1972). He brought his stories together in his book titled Söğütütaltı (Skopje, 1974). His books Mete (Skopje, 1983), Dört Mevsim (Pristina, 1984), İn misin Cin misin (Skopje, 1985) and Yarım Kalan Düşünceler (Skopje, 1984) consist of poems and stories written for children.
Avni Engüllü, who is the founder and president of the N.Macedonia Turkish Cultural Centre, a member of the Macedonia Writers' Union and the North Macedonia Journalists' Association, and a member of the board of trustees of the International Balkan University, also has literary translations.
In 1997, he won the first place with the naat he wrote in the Naat competition of the Turkish Religious Foundation among the poets of Balkan Countries and Cyprus. He was a council member of the world famous Struga Poetry Evenings poetry festival organised in North Macedonia for two terms.
