Two Greek-Americans caught preparing a terrorist attack
Two Greek-American brothers, identified as Andrew (39) and Angelo (51) Hatziagelis, were arrested in the Astoria neighbourhood of Queens, New York, on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack against high-profile local targets.
According to US media reports, New York police seized a list of targets written in a notebook, eight improvised explosive devices, long-barreled weapons, about 600 bullets, body armour and many materials used in bomb-making during a raid at the home of two men.
According to Kathimerini newspaper, police said the notebook, titled "Hit list", included the words "cops, judges, politicians, celebrities, corporate scum and banker scum" on the page with the brothers' apparent targets.
One page of the notebook said, "Wipe the dirt, wipe the world."
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz told the press that a notebook full of anti-government conspiracy theories was also seized from the brothers' home.
The suspects will appear in court on 15 February to answer 130 charges of possession of weapons and related charges.
If convicted, they face up to 25 years in prison.
