Greece’s New Left party has strongly objected to the recent landing of Israel’s official state aircraft, Wings of Zion, at Athens International Airport. The aircraft is used for official visits by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.

In a public statement, New Left questioned why Greece was becoming a “safe parking zone” for the Israeli state, particularly at a time when Israel is internationally criticized for its military actions.

The party demanded an explanation from the Greek government, asking: “Why is the aircraft of a government associated with state terrorism being hosted on Greek soil?”

The statement argued that the government’s actions contradict Greece’s traditionally peaceful foreign policy stance in the region.

Greek media reported that the plane was carrying Israel’s ambassador to Athens, and that the special flight was arranged due to ongoing flight suspensions from Tel Aviv following recent Israeli strikes on Iran.
