Kyrgyzstan-Turkey Manas University Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Nuri Korkmaz attended as a speaker.
Assoc. Dr. Korkmaz touched upon the practices of Greece and Bulgaria regarding the Turkish minorities in the region, which are required by the state policy, and discussed the problems arising from these practices.
Korkmaz stated that the border crossings and highway works that are planned to be opened within the framework of the European Union infrastructure works between Kardzhali and Komotini brought with them very different discussions and that these discussions were mainly caused by Greece.
"Especially the expropriation of Turkish lands for the purpose of highway construction and the delayed or partial payment of expropriation compensations below the progress payment shows that the Turkish minority in the region has suffered a clear loss of rights." He stated that with the start of the European Union to develop cross-border projects, cooperation between Bulgaria and Greece has developed in different fields.
"The article on the intensive and inclusive development of social communication, which is among the cross-border project criteria of the European Union, is restricted by Greece due to 'national security," he said
The conference ended after a question and answer session.
