6.4 and 5.4 magnitude quakes jolted Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina this morning

Turkey’s parliament speaker has conveyed condolences to Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina over powerful earthquakes that hit the countries early Tuesday.

"I wish a speedy recovery for our friendly sister countries Albania and Bosnia Herzegovina from the earthquakes," Mustafa Sentop said on Twitter.

"I share the pain for those who lost their lives and wish a quick recovery for the wounded," he added.

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit the western Albanian city of Durres on Tuesday at 3.54 a.m. local time (0254GMT), according to state officials.

The quake killed at least seven people, said the country’s Defense Ministry.

Hours later, at around 10.19 a.m. local time (0919GMT), a 5.4 earthquake hit Nevesinje in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, 77 kilometers (48 miles) south of the capital Sarajevo.
