YTB President Turus: “When we speak of Western Thrace, our hearts beat differently”
The visit of the New Generation Wing of the Gümülcine Turkish Youth Union (GTGB) to Ankara once again highlighted the strong bond between Western Thrace and Türkiye, with remarks by the President of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), Abdulhadi Turus, drawing particular attention.
As part of its meaningful visit program to Türkiye, the GTGB New Generation Wing paid an official visit to YTB. Traveling from Western Thrace along the Gümülcine–Konya–Ankara route, the young participants followed the traces of history and civilization before being hosted in Ankara.
Meeting with the GTGB youth delegation, YTB President Abdulhadi Turus emphasized the special and deeply emotional significance of Western Thrace for Türkiye. Expressing his sentiments, Turus stated, “When we speak of Western Thrace, our hearts beat differently, and our emotions deepen.”
Turus also underlined the long-standing history of the Gümülcine Turkish Youth Union, which dates back to 1928, noting that the struggle carried out for decades under the name “Turkish” and the values it represents is now being carried forward into the future by the younger generation.
Stating that he was pleased to meet with members of the GTGB New Generation Wing, Turus expressed his hope that the visit would leave lasting memories for the young participants. Emphasizing that YTB’s doors are always open to young people from Western Thrace, he thanked the group by saying, “We are glad you came, thank you for making the journey.”
The visit concluded with the taking of commemorative photographs and the exchange of mutual good wishes.
